Villeréal is a bastide village situated in the north of the Lot et Garonne, on the border with the Dordogne in the Haut Agenais region. Established in 1267 by Alphonse de Poitiers (brother of St Louis, King Louis IX of France) Villeréal enjoys a favoured position in the valley of the river Dropt with half-timbered houses and a XIII century fortified church.

Toward the end of the 14th century, a spacious covered market was erected. Supported by oak pillars, and with the most unusual wattle and daub upper storey, is the heart of the village with its traditional market every Saturday and Wednesday in the summer.

The village is always animated during its many festivals including antique fairs and flea markets, local food and music festivals and the famous night horse racing.

Villeréal is a village to suit everyone with shops, schools, doctors, banks, post-office and numerous good quality restaurants and bars.

The village is just 35km (22miles) from Bergerac airport served by low cost airlines and just an hour and a half to Bordeaux airport.There are rail links from Bergerac and Marmande, both within a half hour drive, to all over France.

The region itself which also borders the Lot et Garonne rivers has plenty of attractions to suit all tastes from cycling, walking, golf, swimming, horse riding or just relaxing with a chilled glass of wine and topping up your tan.
